To support our commitment to your fair and equal treatment, we have established two sets of guidelines that govern how agent and broker relationships and quoting are managed across all insured business of The Doctors Company.
Agent/Broker of Record (AOR/BOR) Guidelines
Our AOR/BOR guidelines ensure all parties are given equal treatment when a client selects the agent or broker who they would like to represent them for their insurance coverage with The Doctors Company.
An AOR/BOR letter is used to legally establish the business relationship between an agent, client, and insurance company. The letter can be used to designate an AOR/BOR for the first time or to replace an existing AOR/BOR with a new one. The letter should include specific information, and the below guidelines are intended to provide a basis for what is required when requesting an AOR/BOR for a client with The Doctors Company. We will evaluate AOR/BOR letters per the following guidelines, as applicable by contract or regulation.
These guidelines apply to policies written on the paper of The Doctors Company or The Doctors Company Risk Retention Group.
To submit a completed AOR/BOR change, please email the AOR/BOR to Agency Support at agencysupport@thedoctors.com.
Please note that we will acknowledge receipt within 48 business hours and process it within five business days following the guidelines. The current agent/broker has five business days, excluding weekends and holidays, from the date of acknowledgement to submit a rescinding letter. Private Equity (PE) and Management Services Organization (MSO) Quoting Guidelines
Our PE and MSO quoting guidelines provide a consistent framework for quoting in scenarios that involve PE acquisitions, MSO enrollments, and practice separations involving The Doctors Company–insured entities. These guidelines clarify when a quote may be provided, when an AOR/BOR is required, and when AOR/BOR or written consent is necessary.
Across all scenarios, the guidelines reinforce that quoting is distinct from agent/broker of record (AOR/BOR) changes, and that underwriting engagement should be driven by risk evaluation, authority, and documented structure rather than agent/broker positioning.
