Elite Agents and Brokers Gather for Annual Napa Meeting
Nearly 150 of our most successful distribution partners and their guests gathered with us at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California, for three days of education, networking, and leisure activities. Held September 4–6, the event featured compelling presentations from company leaders from The Doctors Company and TDC Group and special guest speaker Professor I. Glenn Cohen, a leading voice on the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and bioethics and law.
The presentations included:
- Richard E. Anderson, MD, FACP, Chairman and CEO of The Doctors Company and TDC Group, provided TDC Group news updates and industry highlights. Among topics Dr. Anderson spoke about were TDC Group’s strategic priorities for 2024–2025, current rate strategies for The Doctors Company, a growing member count, digital medicine now and in the future, regulating AI, consolidation within the industry, claims frequency and severity, and how physician shortages are leading to advanced practice clinicians ascending the medical hierarchy.
- Deepika Srivastava, MBA, PMP, Chief Operating Officer of The Doctors Company, gave updates on The Doctors Company operations, social inflation and nuclear verdicts, enhancing underwriting and billing efficiency, and the breadth of patient safety and risk management resources available to our members.
- Laura Kline, MBA, CPCU, CIC, Senior Vice President of TDC Group Business Development, focused her presentation on growing revenue for TDC Group through our valued partnership with independent and captive agents/brokers and provided updates on TDC Group business development, including the success of our advanced practice clinician (APC) and solo-to-five programs, increased growth of our dental book of business, and commission and travel incentives for agents/brokers.
- Laura Archer, CPCU, Vice President of Region III Underwriting, announced technology advancements, including:
- Improved billing options through an upcoming Express Pay portal feature.
- Implementation of an application collaboration portal feature enabling agents/brokers to take ownership of their clients’ dental and APC applications for coverage.
- Progress with technology-assisted underwriting.
- Agent-initiated policy transactions rollout in 2025.
- I. Glenn Cohen, JD, Deputy Dean and James A. Attwood and Leslie Williams Professor of Law, Harvard Law School, and Faculty Director, Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology, and Bioethics, spoke on ethical and legislative issues around AI in medicine, such as bias in datasets, data training and information sharing challenges, and regulatory and lawsuit implications. Professor Cohen also provided a Q&A session for audience members.
- A panel of Regional Operating Officers and Senior Vice Presidents, along with leaders from Government and Community Relations and TDC Specialty Underwriters, explained the current state of rate environments, our underwriting appetite, tort reform, and The Doctors Company’s 2024 legislative and judicial highlights.

The annual meeting included a welcome reception at Silverado Resort, dinner at the upscale Louis M. Martini Winery, and options for agents and brokers to participate in a golf tournament, pottery class, or wine tasting and lunch at Burgess Cellars.
