Ambient artificial intelligence (AI) scribe technology is rapidly becoming part of everyday clinical practice, helping reduce documentation burden and clinician burnout. At the same time, AI scribing introduces privacy, consent, and documentation-integrity risks that require careful management. Recent class-action litigation has highlighted the importance of obtaining meaningful patient consent before recording clinical encounters with ambient AI tools.
This checklist outlines two areas of focus, organizational responsibilities and practitioner responsibilities, to help support the safe and compliant use of AI scribes while reducing liability exposure.
