As an organization founded and led by medical professionals, we understand the pressures you face and your unique needs. We appreciate that a dental career is lifelong, and we go the extra mile to make insurance protection easy for you.
Our policies cover legal defense costs, settlements, and judgments related to malpractice claims—including allegations of negligence, misdiagnosis, or procedural errors.
Claims-made policies generally cover incidents and events that both happen and are reported to us while you have a policy with The Doctors Company. You may request a retroactive date to allow you to report to us claims that arise out of incidents that took place previously while you were insured elsewhere. You can also purchase extended reporting, or tail, coverage, which provides coverage for claims brought regarding incidents that occurred while the policy was in effect—but reported later.
Occurrence policies cover incidents that happen while you were covered by a policy issued by The Doctors Company but can be reported anytime (even if you no longer have a policy with us).
Coverage can often be secured within minutes using our streamlined online application. If your application requires further review by our underwriting team, most applicants can expect coverage to be issued within a few business days.

Yes. Coverage for the elective use of injectable neurotoxins and dermal fillers is available by selecting the cosmetic endorsement as part of your policy. Documentation errors, informed consent issues, and patient communication breakdowns are some of the most overlooked risks. Even small lapses in recordkeeping or follow-up can trigger a claim or board complaint.
To support your commitment to best practices, our coverage includes complimentary dental continuing education courses and risk management resources designed to help prevent errors and enhance patient safety. These proactive tools reduce the risk of adverse events, professional disputes, and liability claims. In addition, coverage extends to board complaints, giving you peace of mind that you’re supported not only against claims but also throughout regulatory proceedings.
Yes. You can purchase $1M/$3M coverage for dental services performed in a state’s dental board exam for a $15 premium.
Yes. The Doctors Company offers a new-to-practice discount for the first three years of practice. This is designed to support you as you build experience and patient volume. Percentage discounts vary by state.
When you retire or leave clinical practice, you will need tail coverage (also called an extended reporting endorsement) to protect yourself against claims filed after you stop working if you have a claims-made policy. At The Doctors Company, we offer free tail coverage upon retirement—so you can enjoy peace of mind, knowing there’s one less detail to worry about as you plan for your future.
