Together, we defend, protect, and reward the practice of good medicine.
The Doctors Company and FPIC Insurance Group, Inc., the parent company of First Professionals Insurance Company, Inc., have officially joined forces.
As a result, The Doctors Company is the nation’s largest insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability with 74,000 members. Founded, owned, and led by physicians, we are better positioned than any other medical liability carrier in the nation to defend, protect, and reward our members.
FPIC insureds will continue to receive outstanding service, and FPIC’s Jacksonville office will serve as the Florida headquarters for the combined organization. FPIC brings a knowledgeable and experienced staff, as well as premier customer service, outstanding claims and risk management services, and close relationships with a number of key medical organizations.
The combined companies are now the largest insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability in Florida, with more than 40 percent of market share. We are the second-largest insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability in Georgia and Arkansas.

We are fiercely committed to defending our members, beginning with the promise to never settle a claim without a member’s consent.* Our Annual Legal Summits convene authorities in medical malpractice law to perfect defensive strategies for emerging threats, and our Litigation Education Retreats prepare litigants to master defense tactics, develop sound testimony, and cope with the emotional stress of a claim.
With $4 billion in assets and financial strength ratings of A (Excellent) by A.M. Best Company and A (Strong) by Fitch Ratings, we have the strength to protect our members anytime, anywhere.
We are regarded as the industry thought leader, and our patient safety programs are nationally recognized for their comprehensive approach to risk and quality of care. Our experts are key participants in forums across the nation, and our innovative tools and resources help reduce risk and improve patient outcomes.
With privacy and data security exposure looming as the fastest growing threat to the modern medical practice, we were the first insurer to integrate CyberGuard® cyber liability protection into our coverage. MediGuard®, also part of our core coverage, provides important protection against regulatory risks.
