Napa, California—April 2, 2013—The Doctors Company, the nation’s largest medical malpractice insurer, announced today its latest video, “Principles of Physician Leadership: Do You Know Them?”, featuring Donald J. Palmisano, MD, JD, FACS, member of The Doctors Company’s Board of Governors, former president of the American Medical Association, and recognized author and lecturer on leadership.
In the video, Dr. Palmisano provides a definition of a leader from his books, The Little Red Book of Leadership Lessons and On Leadership. These leadership characteristics, he notes, are even truer today as the health care system changes and physicians move to integrated health care delivery systems and other entities. Dr. Palmisano also reviews his “six commandments” of leadership—science, ethics, compassion, and courage, along with doing what is in the patient’s best interest and having the patient’s informed consent.
“Strong physician leadership will be critical in new systems of medical care,” said Stacy Schultz, vice president of marketing for The Doctors Company. “We are committed to providing physicians with access to industry experts who give insights that advance the practice of good medicine in these changing times.”
