Top Medical Malpractice Attorneys Sharpen Defense Strategies at Summit
Napa, California—July 17, 2012—The Doctors Company, the nation’s largest insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability, recently convened the West’s top medical malpractice defense attorneys to share information about litigation trends and successful defense strategies.
The Doctors Company’s Legal Summit West 2012 took place on July 13 and 14 in Napa, California. Now in its sixth year, the summit is an assembly of nearly 100 of the region’s most experienced senior legal teams and industry experts. This year’s meeting included attorneys from California, the Northwest, and the Southwest, and as far away as Wyoming and Nebraska.
The sessions are central to The Doctors Company’s mission to provide the industry’s most aggressive claims defense for its members by keeping leading authorities up to date on local and national trends, plaintiff’s strategies, and best practices.

At the summit, topics included defending shoulder dystocia cases, off-label use of medications, and effective techniques for witness preparation and jury selection in medical malpractice litigation. Attendees also heard an update on the Affordable Care Act from former state insurance commissioner John Garamendi, who now represents California’s 10th Congressional District.
The summit was the first of two organized by The Doctors Company in 2012. The second session will be held in October in the Southeast region.
