The Doctors Company Appoints Mary Ann Thode, JD, MPH, to Board of Governors

Napa, California—September 8, 2009—The Doctors Company, the largest national insurer of physician and surgeon medical liability, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mary Ann Thode, JD, MPH, to the company’s Board of Governors.

As former president and CEO of the Northern California Region of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospitals, Mary Ann Thode directed the largest Kaiser service region, with 2008 revenues of over $16 billion, 3.1 million health plan members, 58,000 employees, and 7,000 physicians. The region includes 20 acute care hospitals and six outpatient and ambulatory care/medical office buildings. Prior to her 10 years with Kaiser, Ms. Thode, served as a senior vice president of Operations for the Catholic Healthcare West System (CHW). In that role she was responsible for health care operations in several regions of California, Nevada, and Arizona as well as various merger/acquisition activities and reengineering of core business processes. Before moving to the CHW system office, Ms. Thode was the president and CEO of St Mary’s Medical Center, San Francisco, a division of CHW.

Prior to joining The Doctors Company Board of Governors, Ms. Thode served on the Board of Directors of the California Hospital Association, the Bay Area Council, the American Cancer Society, the California State Chamber of Commerce, Mercy Housing Corporation, and Larkin Street Youth Services. She was also a member of the advisory board for the joint MPH/MBA program at the University of California Berkeley.

Mary Ann Thode received her Juris Doctorate from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California, and her MPH in Health Administration and Planning from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a registered nurse, having earned her RN at the Kaiser Foundation School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from Holy Names University.
