Award-Winning Campaigns Pinpoint Causes of Lawsuits Against Specialists, Share Doctors’ Courtroom Experiences

Closed Claims Studies, Litigation Videos Garner Top Honors

Napa, California—July 12, 2016—The Doctors Company, the nation’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, has been recognized by the Insurance Marketing and Communications Association (IMCA) for its groundbreaking efforts to identify the causes of lawsuits against physicians in several specialties and for depicting the personal experiences of physicians who were successfully defended in court.

The Doctors Company was one of two insurance carriers that won five or more awards among 300 participants in the national competition.

The company was awarded Best in Show for its series of specialty-specific clinical studies of malpractice claims. Physicians nationwide have already begun using the data in these studies to make changes in their practices to benefit patients and reduce the risk of adverse events. The studies revealed the most common types of claims encountered by specialists in emergency medicine, orthopedics, obstetrics, cardiology, and hospital medicine.

The company also received top honors for its “What to Expect from Litigation” campaign, a video series featuring physicians speaking candidly about their personal experiences with the litigation process. Each video includes first-hand accounts from physicians and their defense attorneys and claims representatives—providing unparalleled insight into a physician’s experience from adverse event to prevailing in court. This insight is especially valuable considering the average physician spends over four years of a 40-year career fighting malpractice claims, the majority of which end with no indemnity payment.
