Exclusively Sponsored by the American
College of Physicians
The American College of Physicians (ACP) has exclusively sponsored The Doctors Company’s medical malpractice insurance program since 2001. We have earned the college’s sponsorship through our fierce commitment to relentlessly defend, protect, and reward our members.
As the nation’s largest physician-owned medical malpractice insurer, The Doctors Company has unparalleled insight into the broad range of claims in internal medicine. The ACP Member Insurance Committee provides oversight of the program and helps identify the important professional liability insurance issues impacting ACP members and internal medicine overall. Our chairman and CEO, Richard E. Anderson, MD, is a Fellow of ACP.
Backed by the financial strength of $4 billion in assets and a membership of 73,000 physicians nationwide, The Doctors Company offers ACP members a unique combination of coverage features, aggressive claims defense, unrivaled protection, and tangible economic benefits.

Extensive benefits for ACP members
Program discount and credits.
Members with a favorable claims history receive a program discount of 5 percent, and members who remain claims-free may receive an additional credit of up to 25 percent.
Members who maintain their board certification in internal medicine and the internal medicine subspecialties may receive a patient safety credit of 5 percent.
The industry’s most aggressive legal defense.
We have an iron-clad consent-to-settle promise that means no claim is settled without the member’s consent, where permitted by law.
For members facing litigation, we offer Litigation Education Retreats that help doctors master defense tactics, develop sound testimony, and cope with the emotional stress of a claim.
Our Annual Legal Summit convenes authorities in medical malpractice law to perfect defensive strategies for emerging threats.
Unrivaled protection anytime, anywhere.
Our core medical liability policy includes protection against privacy breach and Medicare reviews through CyberGuard® cyber liability protection and MediGuard® regulatory risk coverage.
Members receive our quarterly publication, The Doctor’s Advocate, which contains timely information on patient safety topics, legislative updates, and the latest industry and company news.
An unequaled financial reward.
You deserve more than a little gratitude for a career spent practicing good medicine. That’s why we created the Tribute® Plan, a groundbreaking benefit that rewards you for your loyalty to The Doctors Company and for your commitment to superior patient care. Since 2007, over 28,000 members have qualified for a Tribute award, and these members have an average balance of $11,855.*
Eligible ACP members also participate in our multiyear dividend program, which has returned $287 million in dividends to members of The Doctors Company.
Qualified members receive free tail coverage.
Founded by doctors for doctors.
We treat the physicians we insure as members of our organization, not just policyholders. Founded, owned, and led by physicians—including the physician majority on our board—we are uniquely aligned with our members’ interests and accountable only to them.
All policy provisions are subject to regulatory and underwriting approval and may vary by state.
*Tribute Plan projections are not a forecast of future events or a guarantee of future balance amounts. For additional details, see the Tribute Plan.
