The Doctor’s Advocate Second Quarter 2008

In Memory of Ann S. Lofsky, MD

I am very sorry to have to report the unexpected passing of Dr. Ann Lofsky, author of the very popular “Case Closed!” column that appeared in The Doctor’s Advocate for many years. Ann was a Board Member Emeritus of The Doctors Company, and reviewed literally thousands of anesthesia claims for us over the years.

A member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, and Board Certified in both Anesthesia and Internal Medicine, Ann was also a practicing anesthesiologist and a consultant to the Executive Committee of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF).

The Doctors Company Foundation is establishing the Ann S. Lofsky, MD Research Award to honor her outstanding contributions to anesthesiology patient safety. It will be awarded each year by the APSF to a grant recipient in their Research Grant Award Program.

—Richard E. Anderson, MD, FACP, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
