2012 Winners of the Young Physicians Patient Safety Award
The Doctors Company Foundation’s Young Physicians Patient Safety Award, conferred in partnership with the Lucian Leape Institute of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF), was presented at the NPSF’s 14th Annual Patient Safety Congress in Washington, DC.
Six winners were selected to receive the $5,000 award plus registration and travel expenses to the annual NPSF Congress. The winning essays, chosen from 79 entries from 25 states, describe an instructional patient safety event the medical student or resident experienced during clinical rotations.
Judges included Dr. Lucian Leape, chairman of the Lucian Leape Institute and an internationally recognized leader of the patient safety movement.

The Doctors Company established the Foundation in 2008 to support patient safety research, forums, pilot programs, and education, as well as medical liability research.
