      Know the Label: FDA-Approved
Electronic Label Updates and Free CME

Physicians can now stay up-to-date with the most frequently updated FDA prescribing information (label changes) through our online partnership with the PDR Network (publishers of the Physicians’ Desk Reference). Clinically relevant changes to existing prescription labels affect over 25 percent of drugs yearly. Those changes are important to protecting your practice and to patient safety. In 2011, 6 percent of our closed claims involved medication-related errors, and the FDA-approved labeling is often the standard to which physicians are held in these suits.

Physicians are notified of these label changes electronically over the PDR Alert Network. Immediately after review, they can earn CME (continuing medical education) credits at no charge at the PDR Network Web site.  The Doctors Company provides the CME credits.

We know that physicians and other prescribers are increasingly busy and can struggle to find time to stay current with all the changes in pharmaceutical labeling. We congratulate The Doctors Company and PDR Network for finding a practical and novel way for physicians to access the full updated labeling through electronic means and have it available at the point of prescribing. This effort dovetails nicely with our Safe Use Initiative and our intent to reduce preventable harm from pharmaceutical products.
