Customized, Evidence-Based Training That Builds Communication and Teamwork Skills to Enhance Patient Safety and Quality Care
Team-Building INSIGHT utilizes a proven framework developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).* It is rooted in more than 20 years of research into how to create highly effective teams. As you implement this phased program, you and your team will have the guidance of Master Trainers, certified professionals who are trained in how to apply teamwork principles. The framework is designed for all audiences, settings, and situations—including office-based care (medical, surgical, and dental) and facilities (acute care and ambulatory care). They can customize the training to your care setting.
Assessment and Analysis
The program begins with a survey of your staff to help the trainers understand their perceptions about teamwork, and assess opportunities for improvement. Based on those findings, the trainers will identify team-building strategies, develop an action plan, and train the team.
The training modules can be customized to your practice environment and focus on four core competency areas:
- Situation monitoring
- Mutual support
In the sessions, your team members will learn how to clarify team roles and responsibilities, resolve conflicts, improve information sharing, and eliminate barriers to quality and safety.
At the end of the program, the trainers will advise you on strategies to maintain and spread the improvements in teamwork performance that your staff has achieved. This will help set your organization on a path to sustaining a team-oriented culture.
Team-Building INSIGHT is a value-added service offered at no cost to our members. It is part of our ongoing commitment to provide members with guidance and resources to advance the practice of good medicine.

Taking the Mal Out of Malpractice Insurance
We have a long history of transforming our industry and service to the profession. Today, as healthcare delivery continues to undergo unprecedented change, it is more important than ever to have a strong, trusted partner that helps you focus on what you do best—delivering care. That’s why we’re changing the role of the malpractice insurer to one of partner and thought leader—it’s malpractice insurance without the mal.
We shine a light on risks and trends others cannot see. In a healthcare setting, having a cohesive team is critical to reducing the risk of medical errors and harm to patients. Even highly skilled, motivated professionals are vulnerable to error due to inherent human limitations. Despite the importance of teamwork, most healthcare organizations lack formal teamwork training.
